Frenchie

 I always felt an overwhelming pressure to ‘say something’ with my art, and the frustration came when I realized how impossible it felt to get my thoughts and feelings across. The more and more I created, the more I felt my ‘inner world’ slipping out and becoming tactile. My sculptures became bigger and more dominating as the years went on. I wasn’t planning anything, and nothing had any direction, but whenever a piece was finished, I felt I had always known it would exist as if my thoughts had grown out of me. However, I have often felt very performative as I had never anticipated how personal my work would feel, and the more I shared, the more naked I felt. My inner world had never been seen by anyone before, even myself. I didn’t want to share everything as I didn’t feel ready to be seen too clearly. I wanted to remain vague as I knew I wouldn’t be able to explain what any of it meant, so I began to give the bare minimum to avoid lying. No one piece means anything in particular, but once I look at all the details I have put in, I can see what they mean to me.
